Embracing Changes, Empowering Futures: My Journey through Gifted Education
Looking back, I have been a member of the leadership stream of the Support Measures for the Exceptionally Gifted Students programme since my secondary school days. This programme has truly shaped my future, particularly in terms of my studies and career path. I vividly remember attending an interview for the selection interview, where we were invited to share our thoughts on a topic related to leadership. Even back then, I felt that I would gain much more knowledge than my peers through this programme.
Over the years, the programme has been incredibly fruitful and rewarding. I had the opportunity to attend lectures and workshops conducted by professors from various universities, such as HKU, CUHK, and HKBU. At the time, I found the concepts to be advanced and complicated, but not overly difficult to grasp. After graduating, I secured a position as an English teacher at a local primary school. For over 14 years, I have been managing various administrative tasks, from Primary 1 admissions to general affairs. While the work can be tiring at times, I have never stopped learning. In fact, I went on to pursue two master programmes in curriculum planning and implementation at HKU and CUHK, as I believe that a well-designed curriculum is crucial for enhancing students' learning.
Now, I am about to embark on a new chapter in my career. This September, I will be taking on the role of a curriculum developer at Lutheran Tsang Shing Siu Leun School. Coincidentally, I have also been invited by a Hong Kong representative to serve as a consultant on the Cocomelon project by Moonbug Company in the United Kingdom. This opportunity will allow me to design more engaging learning materials and create authentic learning experiences for primary students in Hong Kong and even across Asia, such as Phonics Funland, Science Adventure, musical journeys, and Cocomelon Coach Adventure. My hope is that these materials and experiences will ignite students' interest in learning English and improve their proficiency.
Furthermore, I am particularly interested in exploring the integration of English and AI learning in an innovative and captivating manner, as I believe that AI will play an increasingly significant role in the near future. I am committed to pursuing this vision and will continue to encourage more students to join the HKAGE programme.
Change and challenges, to a certain extent, are inevitable but essential. As John F. Kennedy once said, "Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other." Without embracing change, one cannot imagine the heights that can be achieved. Indeed, the experiences I've gained through the HKAGE programme have shaped my values in education and student development. I will keep working to explore new possibilities in the years to come, always striving to excel and reach new heights, just as the HKAGE programmes have taught me.
