Hong Kong Youth AI Master Applied Tech Innovation Awards

Jointly hosted by the Hong Kong Academy of Gifted Education (HKAGE) and Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI), the "Hong Kong Youth AI Master Applied Tech Innovation Awards" ("Competition") encourages the use and integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in our daily lives as AI technologies advance with its growing significance in our surroundings.

The Competition, taking place on 17 May 2025, is open to all secondary school students in Hong Kong to raise their awareness and spark their interests in AI, offering them an opportunity to polish their creative thinking, problem-solving, innovation skills and bring ideas into fruition. The registration starts on 4 October 2024.


Eligibility
Each participating team should be formed by Secondary 1 to 3 (Junior Category) and 4 to 6 (Senior Category) full-time students in 2024/25 school year in Hong Kong from schools. All members in the same team should be from the same school or organisations subvented by the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

Each participating team should consist of an instructor, and 2 to 6 students. Mixing teachers and/or students from different schools is not allowed.


Competition Format
The competition will be conducted in 2 streams: junior category (for S.1-3) and senior category (for S.4-6), with a first round and a final round.

First round: Submit a video proposal not more than 3 minutes to present their topic developed based on the competition theme "AI for Better Living" and demonstrate elements of AI.

 

Final round (Prototype): Ten shortlisted senior category teams will create a prototype to be exhibited on the competition day.

 

Final round (Presentation): Five shortlisted junior category teams will present their proposals on stage on the competition day; Five of the ten shortlisted senior category teams, based on the exhibition performance, will present their proposals on stage.


Evaluation

A judging panel will be formed and consist of members of technologists from ASTRI, and/or representatives from the education and/or I&T sector.

The judging panel will evaluate the first round video proposals, the final round prototypes and exhibitions, and the presentation performances based on various judging criteria in the areas of innovation, application, benefits to society, functionality, presentation, etc.

Online Application (Registration Platform Guideline)

Participating teams should register for the Competition through the online registration system on or before 5:00p.m. on 14 February 2025. Any late registration will not be accepted.

Each team should appoint one representative to complete the online registration on the system. The representative will receive login credentials to access the remaining parts of the application and the submission platform through a confirmation email.

Participating teams will receive a confirmation email once their registration is confirmed. Please contact us if they do not receive the email by the registration deadline.

By submitting a registration, the participating teams acknowledge and agree to abide by the rules and regulations. 

Submission

The Representative from each participating team should submit the proposal (i.e. the video proposal and, if applicable, the supplementary slides) by submitting the relevant Google Drive links to the submission system on or before 5:00pm on 28 February 2025. All winning teams of the awards below will receive a trophy, certificates and scholarships supported by Bright Future Charitable Foundation, and the members will have the opportunity to be nominated for HKAGE membership through the "Nurturing the Gifted Scheme".

ASTRI will be holding a series of five hybrid AI educational seminars from October 2024 to February 2025, allowing everyone to understand more about the practical applications of AI in various areas in the society.
