Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education x tramplus Tram Body Design Created with 3D and AI Technology by HKAGE’s Students
(Hong Kong, 17 June 2023) Recently, Hong Kong is vigorously promoting STEM education, integrating art elements into STEM and upgrading it to STEAM. In line with the increasing popularity of artificial intelligence (AI), 15 gifted students from Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE) aged between 12 and 16 became "tram body designers". After completing a 20-hour 3D model course, they utilised 3D & AI knowledge in class and designed the tram body by themselves. Their designs embody the vision of a future city in their minds while celebrating the 15th anniversary of HKAGE.
This special-edition Art Tram will run through the northern part of Hong Kong Island in the coming month. This is also the first time that the HKAGE and tramplus cooperate to demonstrate the potential of STEAM education and creativity of 3D AI design.
“HKAGE students mastered 3D skills in the course and utilised technology to make the city more vivid. They are looking forward to making good use of 3D technology in different fields in the future so that more citizens can enjoy the benefits of STEAM education,” said Joseph LIN, Head of Teaching and Curriculum Development at tramplus.
Dr Jimmy WONG, Executive Director of the HKAGE, said, “’3D Tram Designer’ is a very special programme that integrates engineering, technology, art, and creativity. By designing the body of a tram, a long-established means of transportation in Hong Kong, it can bring students’ creations to the community, passengers, and pedestrians. This special edition Art Tram will be launched on 17 June and will travel around the streets of Hong Kong Island for one month until 16 July. You may keep an eye for it, take a selfie and share photos of it on the HKAGE’s social media platform. The HKAGE will select outstanding photos for reward. For details, please refer to the Facebook and Instagram of the HKAGE. In addition, the public is welcome to join the 15th anniversary celebration of the HKAGE on 7-8 July at Hong Kong Science Park to witness a new milestone in gifted education."
