The HKAGE Secondary Student Orientation 2015 : New Student Members Join Hands to Enter a New Phase of Learning

(Hong Kong - 14 July 2015) The Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE) has held the Secondary Student Orientation to welcome its newly-admitted student members and their parents. Professor Ng Tai Kai, Executive Director of the HKAGE, delivered an opening speech at the orientation ceremony, encouraging student members to participate actively in the HKAGE’s challenging programmes and activities. He hoped the programmes would motivate students to find their real interests, pursue knowledge and enhance their high-order thinking and problem-solving skills. Gifted student members were expected to be able to realise their full potential through the interactive and interesting programmes.

The representatives of the Student Programmes and Services Division briefly introduced new student members to the HKAGE’s programmes and activities. Furthermore, four student members shared their learning experiences in the HKAGE with new students. Lam Wang Hei, one of the student members, said he was most impressed by the astronomy programme, in which he was given a chance to assemble an astronomical telescope and make a meteorite model. He also enjoyed a coastal field trip that provided a valuable opportunity for him to know about the habitual behaviours of horseshoe crabs. Another student member Yeung Tsz Yan talked about her impressive experience in the introductory workshop on biomedical sciences and biotechnology, where she performed an interesting loss of righting reflex assay in mice as well as learning about genetic modification. Besides, she joined an adventure day-camp which was so fruitful that it enhanced her resilience, team spirit and problem-solving skills.
