HKAGE Student Members Won Several International Awards

A team of eight student members of the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE) representing Hong Kong at the China West Mathematical Invitation 2013 in Langzhou of Gansu Province, have won one gold medal, five silver medals and two bronze medals. The Gold Medalist is Secondary Four student Tung Kam-chuen from La Salle College. Five Silver medallists are all Secondary Four students, Cheung Yat-sum from Sing Yin Secondary School, Tang Dik-Man Damian from La Salle College, Lui Ching-Yin from Queen’s College, Wu Tsz Yu Isabella from Diocesan Girls’ School and Chow Chun-hin from King’s College. Two Bronze Medalists are Secondary Three student Hon Pun-yat from Queen’s College and Secondary Four student Li Christopher from La Salle College. The CWMI was held during 15 to 20 of August 2013 at The High School Attached to the Northwest Normal University and there were a total of 106 participants from 20 provinces and cities. This competition is organised by the China Western Mathematical Invitation Committee and the main objectives are to promote mathematics education, foster friendly relationships with fellow mathematicians in the Mainland, and to nurture and stimulate the development of mathematically gifted young people.


The 54th International Mathematical Olympiad

Six student members of the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE) representing Hong Kong at the 54th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) and they have won one silver medal and five bronze medals. The Silver Medalist is Secondary Four Student Lau Chun-ting from St. Paul Co-educational College. Five Bronze Medalists are Secondary Five student Hui Pak-nam and Wong Hing-shing, both are from LaSalle College, Secondary Six Student Li Jianhui from CNEC Christian College, Secondary Six Student Man Siu-hang from CCC Ming Yin College and Secondary Five student Wong Sze-nga from Diocesan Girls’ School. The IMO was held during 18 to 28 of July 2013 at Santa Marta of Columbia with more than 100 countries participating. The event aims at promoting education in Mathematics while strengthening the interaction and co-operation among experts and students in Mathematics worldwide.


The 43rd International Physics Olympiad (IPhO)

Five student members of the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE) have represented Hong Kong to participate in the 44th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) which held in Copenhagen, Denmark and they have been awarded with three silver medals and two bronze medals. Three silver medalists are Secondary Six Student Man Siu Hang from CCC Ming Yin College, Secondary Six Student Shing Ming, Tony from Wong Shiu Chi Middle School and Secondary Five Student Tam Pok Man from Sing Yin Secondary School. Both bronze medalists are Secondary Six students, Lum Kai Chun from Queen’s College and Wong Yiu Man from Queen Elizabeth School. The IPhO this year was held from 7 to 15 of July 2013 in Copenhagen, Denmark with 381 participants from about 83 countries. The event aims at promoting education in physics while strengthening interaction and co-operation among experts in physics worldwide. Another purpose of the contest is to train and inspire teenagers who have academic potential in physics.
