HKPC and HKAGE Organise “STEM: TecHunt Game Day” to Offer Immersive Technology Experience for 200+ Primary and Secondary Gifted Students to Master FutureSkills
(Hong Kong, 19 August 2022) The Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) recently organised a 2-day “STEM: TecHunt Game Day” with four interactive TecHunt workshops for 280 primary and secondary gifted students from The Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE). The overall response was overwhelming. The event aims at equipping the gifted students with knowledge on the latest technologies such as 5G technology, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics, as well as Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things (IoT) through different games, so as to prepare them for the Digital Era and future workplace.
The participants of “STEM: TecHunt Game Day” must complete the missions at 7 checkpoints scattered in HKPC Building within a specified timeframe. Throughout the game, students have to apply their knowledge in technology and demonstrate their teamwork to tackle the challenges in the shortest time. They also visited the Green Hall to learn more about the latest Smart City development and Green Technology solutions. Through exchanging ideas with young engineers from HKPC, the students were able to learn more about the career path and job opportunities of technology talents. During the sharing sessions, both students and tutors shared their insights and suggestions towards local innovation and technology (I&T) development, thus enhancing students’ confidence in presentation and arousing their interest in I&T.
Ms Karen Fung, General Manager, InnoPreneur (SME & Startup Growth) and FutureSkills of HKPC, said, “We are delighted to organise the ‘STEM: TecHunt Game Day’ with the HKAGE, offering prospective Technology Education (TechEd) and development opportunities for gifted students with high potential. STEM education encourages students to ‘learn by doing’ and ‘trial and error’. HKPC strives to nurture students’ interest in STEM from a young age, equipping them with FutureSkills such as ABCD & R - AI, Blockchain, Cloud Computing, Big Data and Robotics through interactive games. These aim to improve their knowledge and competitiveness in I&T field, and pave the way for the Digital Era. We invite HKPC engineers to introduce the latest Green and Food Technologies in order for the students to have first-hand experience on technology application and understand the benefits of technology to the community. With I&T industry becoming the trend-setter in the future, the market has a high demand for technology talents. HKPC’s Inno Space is committed to promoting TechEd and expanding the local talent pool. Last year, we held more than 100 seminars and workshops, engaged with primary and secondary teachers and students and a number of STEM partners, and served over 80 schools in the TechEd STEM Network, thereby bolstering TechEd development in Hong Kong.”
Dr Jimmy Wong, Executive Director of the HKAGE, said, “My appreciation goes to HKPC for organising the Game Day. Interactive TecHunt workshops were organised for our primary and secondary school student members to master knowledge on 5G technology, Cyber Security, AI and Robotics, Industry 4.0 and IoT, etc. through exciting and fun games. Our student members were also given the valuable opportunity to learn from young engineers of HKPC and understand the development prospects in STEM fields. I look forward to continued collaborations with HKPC for organising more interesting STEM competitions and activities in the future, so that young people will be attracted to the I&T industry and develop new opportunities in the local society!”
