Gifted Education Fund: Off-school Advanced Learning Programmes (2024/25 School year)

Programmes for secondary students


A total of 9 Off-school Advanced Learning Programmes funded by Gifted Education Fund are available for gifted students at primary and secondary levels in the current school year. 5 of them are programmes for secondary students.

The following programmes are open for application to Secondary 1 to 5 HKAGE student members on or before 12:00 noon, 2 April 2025. Before submitting an application, student should thoroughly read the: Points-to-note

2024-05 Secondary Programme
Quantum Talent Accelerator: From Classical to Quantum Communication Network

This programme explores the 21st-century applications of quantum science, with a strong focus on quantum communication and emerging quantum technologies. Students will learn fundamental principles, such as quantum entanglement and quantum key distribution (QKD), and understand their critical role in secure communication. The curriculum emphasises hands-on experience, including simulating quantum cryptographic protocols and analysing real-world quantum network implementations. Through guided research and collaborative projects, students will develop innovative problem-solving skills, gain insight into cutting-edge quantum technologies, and prepare for advanced studies in this rapidly evolving field.

Adventuring into Transformative Healthcare: Integrating Technology with AI-Powered Digital Solutions 

The "IntelliLearn AI" programme empowers gifted students to design and implement AI solutions for medical applications, focusing on patient diagnostics and data analytics. Students gain skills in experimental design, problem-solving, and collaboration through hands-on workshops and independent projects. They explore medical imaging, AI integration, and ethical considerations in healthcare. By the end, students develop critical communication skills and are prepared to address complex healthcare challenges, with a focus on responsible AI usage in medicine.

Mathematical and Computational Methods for Artificial Intelligence and Quantitative Finance

This programme provides talented students with an accelerated understanding of mathematical and computational techniques for AI and Quantitative Finance. It offers a structured curriculum, equipping students with essential skills for further study and exploration. The course establishes a framework for using mathematics and computation to tackle complex problems. Students will engage in hands-on exercises and research projects, guided by experienced academics and industry professionals, promoting positive values and collaboration through group discussions, projects, and presentations.

Nurturing Hong Kong’s Future Researchers and Professionals in Economic Policy and Finance to Strengthen Hong Kong’s Economy

This programme equips high school students with a strong foundation in economics, finance, and policy-making through an immersive learning experience at CUHK. Participants explore micro and macroeconomics, financial markets, and investment strategies, while engaging in career planning, site visits, and mentorship. Through phase challenges and real-world applications, students develop analytical skills and critical thinking while fostering positive values and holistic growth, preparing them for future academic and professional pursuits.

Edge AIoT and Microelectronics (EdgeAIoTM) Engineering Skills for Gifted Students

This programme aims to equip gifted students with essential knowledge and skills related to AI, IoT, edge computing, and microelectronics technologies. It also seeks to empower them with coding, engineering, and mathematics skills, as well as critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. These soft and hands-on skills will enable them to develop applications that can solve current and future world problems.
