The HKAGE’s First Admission Talk Attracts over 300 Parents and Students

(Hong Kong – 11 March 2016) Further studies and programme selection have been the major concerns among gifted students and parents. To familiarise student members and their parents with the characteristics and admission arrangements of local universities, and their supports offered to gifted students. The Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education (HKAGE) held the Admission Talk on 27 February. Representatives of eight local tertiary institutions, namely The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, The Hong Kong Institute of Education and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, were invited to be the keynote speakers. The talk was the first of its kind organised by the HKAGE; it attracted more than 300 parents and student members with its appealing topic and useful content, filling the venue to capacity.

During the sharing session, the speakers from the eight institutions introduced the features and admission arrangements of their institutions. They also shared with participants some cases about gifted students admitted through special admissions, and shed light on the support offered to gifted students after being admitted. The sharing was followed by a question-and-answer session by groups conducted respectively by the institution representatives, which provided an interactive environment where the parents and student members could ask the representatives directly about admission arrangements. During the session, the participants displayed keen interest and raised questions actively in a lively atmosphere.

The talk received positive feedback from parents and student members. Many participants considered it to be a valuable opportunity to learn more about the admission requirements and characteristics of different institutions, and to enquire about the admission process for individual programmes and the support offered to gifted students through an all-in-one event. The information provided at the talk served as a useful reference for them to choose a suitable institution and programme. They looked forward to similar events organised by the HKAGE in future, such as admission talks on specific programmes, to meet the diverse needs of gifted students.
