The 2013 China Girls Mathematical Olympiad was held from 10-14 August 2012 at Zhenhai High School, Ningbo, China. The eight members were selected after receiving three phrases of Mathematics enrichment programmes co-organised by the HKAGE and International Mathematical Olympiad Hong Kong Committee (IMOHKC). The Education Bureau (EDB) sponsored the delegates’ trip.
Dr Stephen Tommis, Executive Director of the HKAGE, said he is pleased about the outstanding performance and results of the student members at CGMO. He hoped the students would continue to develop their interest and go further in the future competitions.
Mak Ho-Yi, Lydia shared that she has learnt a lot from other competitors and was so impressed by the attitude of other students towards the competition. She said the HK team realized that how lucky they were after meeting a group of Xinjiang students as they do not have much training for the competition and they have to pay all the expenses themselves. She mentioned, “I think I ought to learn from the students I have met, work hard on the basic skills and treasure every opportunity I get.”
The contest attracted a total of 138 participants who formed 34 teams representing provinces, cities or regions of Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Philippines, Russia and Taipei.
