HKAGE members grab top HKDSE Honours
(Hong Kong – 16 July 2013)
The results of the 2013 Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination have just been released and HKAGE members dominate the list of high achievers 4 HKAGE student members have gained 5** with all seven subjects. They are:
• Tsui Yan-Ki from Good Hope School,
• Cheung Yik-In from True Light Girls’ College,
• Tsang Yee-Wai from The Church of Christ In China Heep Woh College and
• Tsz Cho-Ho from HKFYG Lee Shau Kee College.
There are 2 “Super Champions” this year and Tsui Yan-Ki from Good Hope School is one of them. She got 5** in both compulsory and the extended part of Mathematics so in total she got “16 stars”.
Tsui is a student of Mathematics Domain. She participated in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) Preliminary Selection Contest – Hong Kong 2012 and was awarded a Bronze Medal. Besides, she also participated in the training of the 43rd International Physics Olympiad. Tsui felt very surprised about the remarkable scores as she always prepared for the worst. She said, “I feel no different from other students. What is important is the effort I put into my studies. The student members of the HKAGE may be more intelligent, but indeed, talent alone is not the most important; it is the hard work and effort that you have made that is more significant. We should make good use of our own talent, and treasure the gift which God has given us."
Tsui has applied to take part in programs from different domains in the past three years. The program that has impressed her most has been “Stimulate Leadership Potential Through Effective Project Management Principles”. She enjoyed discussing more in-depth information with the tutor which is from the business sector and she can get more realistic marketing information during the lessons. This program under the HKAGE Leadership Domain, co-organized with Project Management Institute Hong Kong Chapter, introduced the concept of project management by referring to the professional project management standard and best practices advocated by the Project Management Institute (PMI) which is the USA national Standard for project management. Tsui would like to select both BBA and Law in the University of Hong Kong as her main subject and she is confident in this choice.
Dr Stephen Tommis, Executive Director of the HKAGE, commented that he is very proud that nearly half of the highest HKDSE awards this year went to Academy members. It shows that the HKAGE is making an impact on the educational opportunities for gifted students in Hong Kong.
Once again, HKAGE would like to congratulate the student members who gained high scores in HKDSE, and wish them every success in the future whatever path they choose to follow.
